Bazoumana Toure has been amongst the seasonal orgy of rumored names for the current transfer window, so figured I would take the opportunity to have a look and also see how he compares with another rumored target, and recently benchmarked, Sondre Orjasaeter.
Even most antiquated recruitment operations maintain lists of players for whom those in charge of recruitment consider, in Celtic’s case Brendan Rodgers, so it is quite possible that both of these players are part of such a list. Of course, I have no way of knowing, but even if they are not, it can be an interesting contextual speculation about the types of player profiles the club may be considering.
First, let us get up to speed some on Bazoumana, as I ran him through a comparable league and age-based benchmarking exercise as the one done for Orjasaeter:
An important distinction for Bazoumana is that he played the 2024 season in Sweden mostly as an 18-year old, and will turn 19 in early March. Hammarby was a possession-centric and pressing-oriented side that finished second in the league on goal difference, but their attacking output was pretty comparable to the team Orjasaeter played for, Sarpsborg, though the latter’s style of play was not as aligned with Celtic’s.
