My analysis of the competitive dynamics within the league left me confident in declaring publicly that it was effectively over on December 2, 2024, or just over three months ago. Of course, that declaration was quite early, with only 13 league games completed at the time. Coaches and players would probably had to have been mad to internalize such a view.
With Celtic now 16 points clear and 9 games to go, it may be difficult for even as a talented communicator as Brendan Rodgers to convince his players that jeopardy remains.
Is it plausible that the team is already comfortably on cruise control for the remainder of the season? How should we all feel about that? Are they allowed to be human?
The past three league games for Celtic have felt a bit different, at least to this alleged human. Despite what were ultimately comfortable score lines of 5-1 and 5-2, even the victories over Aberdeen and St. Mirren felt far more competitive than those scores reflected. This led me to do some poking around to look for the “humanity” in the last five league champions.
