Nice one James - hard to imagine he would pick Celtic when he has pot1&2 clubs after him - do we get into europa if we don’t win our qualifier ? I guess that’s still European football after Christmas. I hope we get him I agree he looks good
No drop down from league play in the new setup, but if we were to lose in the final qualifying round of CL, I am pretty sure we would drop into EL. Don't remember whether it would be automatic or require another playoff, but guessing it would be direct.
The benchmarking exercises you do are fantastic, thanks James. Proof will be in the pudding but I am encouraged by some of the names we are being linked to. Speaks to a more analytical approach perhaps.
This comparison is quite stark. Is there an easy way to see Kvistgaarden vs Kyogo? I guess the question is also what we lose vs what we gain and we have to consider if what we gains gives us another level of threat.
Personally I think a UCL front 3 of Jota, Maeda, Kuhn would be threatening to almost any club we face. In terms of counter pressing, pace in behind and Jotas ability to carry and retain the ball which Maeda lacks out wide.
I don't have an easy way to assemble a report, but I can tell you from memory that when I did the exercise for Kyogo, he displayed similar robustness for his last year in Japan. Kyogo and O'Riley are the two players we have signed with that sort of broadly distributed quality across metrics.
Would we let Kyogo go with no replacement and Kenny Idah and Maeda as replacements with a new winger coming in, 13 points clear in the league and CL qualification secured? I would take a Florian Wirtz lite mind. What are we at now £100m cash at bank and £150m turnover probably banked? Dangerously large numbers
Huge test this window after Tisdale in the door and a supposed revamping of recruitment over the past several months. Have to look forward and plan for next August qualifiers so getting 2-3 in this window could be important with that in mind.
As for cash, management looks to me as if they may have been using working capital to get cash levels down at the time of statement snap shots over the last year. £100+ million looks plausible, if not likely, for June 30 2025 snap shot assuming no major developments.
Striking disparity (pardon the pun)...we might have to spend more than we did on Idah. If I'm Bronby, I would be pushing the benchmarking document across the table and saying, you paid paid 9m on the lad from Norwich we want more than that..
My concern is that with Big 5 upper half teams potentially circling, we may not be willing/able to compete on wages even if we can on the fee. Hopefully those are agent-driven rumors trying to squeeze more out of Celtic!
With it looking like Kyogo is gone, hope this one goes thru. Very exciting numbers in comparison to Idah

Going to be a fun final week of the window!
